Bambi Tackles 20% Everleigh Layoff

Dear Bambi,

I have a real problem for you today. We just received notice that we will no longer have a concierge at Everleigh. I really think this stinks. We are already down one member of our staff because of a car accident and now we lose one of our best people! We just don't know what to do about it except to be really depressed. The owners of this complex don't care. They just want to save money. Can you give us some good advice as you are such a woman of the world. We need help and reassurance!

Amanda

Dear Amanda,
This is a difficult one. I really prefer questions about love triangles, cheating husbands and loose women. That is really more up my alley!

However, I will try my best to help you out. First of all, be a comfort to each other. Sit around and bitch! I have found that is good for the soul (if you have one.) The more you talk and talk about a bad situation the less bad it becomes because you gradually get used to it!

Secondly, realize that change is constant. Every day things are changing. At your ages you should be used to it. No one is irreplaceable. Almost no one, but I think that I am not replaceable. When I am gone you will never get over the loss. Don't worry though, I ain't going anywhere for a long, long time. In the meantime try to accept change and just deal with it. It is always going to happen again and again.

Try to do something to make yourselves feel better. Face the fact that whatever you do will not stop what is happening. You have to do something though! Maybe get together with some folks and contact corporate headquarters with a well written letter of complaint stating your reasons for objecting. They won't care what you say but you will feel better getting it off your chest.

Another tactic is more devious. Write reviews about what you have lost since you've lived here. Do not be petty. Be very, very honest. Also be extra careful where you write these reviews and make sure what you write is solid. I would also talk to someone more knowledgeable than me about what the legal repercussions could be and also the possibility of retaliation (higher rents, etc;) I could suggest a lawyer but all my guys deal only with criminal matters. Since I do not live there I really can't tell you much more.

So good luck to all of you guys. Also be kind to my clueless cousin. She probably doesn't even know what is happening. Maybe I will try to explain it to her in simple words but, as you all know, she never listens to me.

Bambi

  1. There was no layoff ordered to any Graystar property! That statement came directly from the Vice President of Graystar that is in charge of Everleigh Naperville to me. Be carefull of who you accuse
Of all the changes going on, more to come!
